About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field.
Klaus-Michael Schneider, 1 Apr 2017

Coat of arms

Shield Or, parted by a bend sinister Sable masoned Argent, in dexter chief and sinister base a flash Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "CORISCADA".
Klaus-Michael Schneider, 1 Apr 2017

Meaning:
"Coriscada" is a (one of several) quaint, slightly archaic Portuguese words for "thunderstorm", from "corisco" = "lightning bolt" (more specifical a thunderless one; a coriscada being thus a faraway thunderstorm). These arms are therefore canting, or at least punning.
António Martins-Tuválkin, 3 Apr 2017

Flag and arms published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série on 25 October 2004
