It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of red and white.

Shield Argent parted by a bend wavy Azure charged with a barrulet wavy Argent, in sinister chief a mattock's blade Gules, in dexter base a hammer Gules stemmed Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "RIBEIRINHA - LAJES DO PICO".
Meaning:
The bend wavy is symbolizing the river banks giving the commune its name. The hammer is representing carpentry, the blade agriculture.

Ribeirinha Commune is one of the six communes of the Lajes do Pico municipality (q.v.); it had 374 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 8.7 km².
