Overview

Mona island is an uninhabited island , half way westwards to Dominican Republic and as far as I know it is neither a municipality itself nor part of any.
António Martins , 21 May 2000

The island is managed by the Department of National Resources and has no flag on its own.
Dov Gutterman , 22 May 2000

Mona island is indeed not a municipality. However, it belongs to the City of Mayaguez as far as territory is concerned. It is un-inhabited as far as residences but there is a permanent garrison of the Department of Natural Resources that stays there in order to watch over the native species found there.
