This city of 35,601 inhabitants in central Puerto Rico, was
founded in 1809. Under the Order No. 8, 1975-76 Series, the
Municipal Assembly approved the project including the flag, Coat of Arms and seal of the Municipality of
Cidra on September 25, 1975. Professor J.J. Santa-Pinter's
professional services in heraldics were obtained through the
Cultural Centre. The flag is of regulation dimensions (3'x5')
[91.4 cm x 152 cm]. The Municipal Seal shines on the flag uniting
all three stripes, and the whole is ended with yellow fringes.
Each colour has its own symbolism. The green evokes the landscape
and its spring-like green colours throughout the year. This
colour covering the land together with the variety of colours of
each flower make us known as the "City of the Eternal
Spring". The gold refers to the wealth of fruit and water,
and also to the spiritual wealth of the region and city. The

This flag is at pueblos-de-puertorico.com site (defunct). It
is a Madagascar-style flag; according to the lexjuris-site red at
the hoist and horizontally yellow over green. However, at the
pueblos-site the colors are different and on the cutting-point
there is a seal, consisting of the Coat of Arms within two
concentric circles with (in white) the text (top) CIDRA and
(bottom) PUERTO RICO.

Cidra - Its flag has two horizontal stripes, green the upper
one and gold (yellow) the lower one. To the hoist we can see a
brown vertical stripe. The city seal unites all three stripes.
The flag ends fimbriated in yellow. Green invokes the greenness
of the municipal landscape covered by the variety in its flower's
colors. Gold stands for the fruit and aquatic richness as for the
region and citizenry spiritual aspect. The Virgin of Carmen and
the savannah pigeon come to shape in the brown color.

Note that the short description at <www.cidrapr.com>,
immediately under the flag's image mixes up 'horizontal' and
'vertical'.

Under the decree # 8, series 1975-76, the Municipal Assembly
approved, on September 25, 1975 , the project that contained the
flag, shield, and the seal of Cidra Municipality elaborated
by professor J.J. Santa Pinter.
The flag is of regulated size (3 ' xs 5 '). It has two
horizontal strips, the firs one is green, the inferior one is
golden and next to the spear, a vertical strip of brown
color. The seal of the Municipality shines on the flag
uniting the three strips already described.
Each color in the flag has its symbolism. The green one
invokes the green landscape throughout the year. This color
on earth covered at the same time by the variety of colors in
each flower, has presented this town like the City of the Eternal
Spring. The golden color respectively talks about to the
fruit, as well as spiritual wealth of the region and the
citizenship. The brown flying ant to the Virgin Our Lady of
the Carmen, patron saint of Cidra and to the sabanera dove,
unique spice in the world that has its greater habitat in this
municipality.

Image No. 2 folows the proportions quoted in the text in Lexjuris
site , namely 3:5, but since I made the whole series as 2:3
(according to the images and the national flag), I labelled that
one as No. 2. I have replaced the yellow of my initial image with
dark yellow, according to the text which refers to gold [color
dorada]. [This is one instance where 3:5 proportions are
explicitly quoted, whereas some other cities make it clear that
their flag has a 2:3 ratio... And yet all are supposed to have
the same proportions, it seems.

It can be seen that below the Coat of Arms is written: CIDRA -
DE ETERNA PRIMAVERA (Cidra - eternal spring).
Jarig Bakker, 29 January 2000
Approved by Municipal Assembly during the decade of the
seventies. The red band that crosses the shield diagonally
represents the name of the municipality and symbolizes the
patriotic love of the population and its daily struggle, as well
as the martyrdom of San Juan Nepomuceno, one of the holy patrons
of the municipality. Over the red band it has a gold
"cidra" and a cornucopia with its fruit in natural
color, which alludes that Cidra is one of the mayor producer of
fruit of the Island. In the superior right is placed a scapulary
that evokes the Virgin Carmen, patron saint of the town, and a
black bishop hat that alludes to San Juan Nepomuceno, bishop and
martyr. In the left inferior part, on a blue bottom, is locatd a
brown Savannah Dove which nests in the Cidra area. This dove
flies over a mountain of three tips, which indicates the location
of the municipality in the Central Mountain Range. The blue and
silver waves symbolize the aquatic wealth of Cidra. All this is
capped by a three-tower crown because is a Town. In the banner is
written Cidra de Eterna Primavera (Cidra eternal spring).
