Vestfold og Telemark (Norway)

In 2017, the government decided to abolish some of the counties and to merge them with other counties to form larger ones, reducing the number of counties from 19 to 11, to be implemented from 2020. Telemark og Vestfold would have become Vestfold og Telemark.

However, this was much opposed in Telemark, as the merger met many problems in its implementation. Thus, the county council decided to propose the unmerging in 2022, which was subsequently approved by the national parliament later the same year. On 2024-01-01, Vestfold and Telemark counties were re-established and their original arms were readopted; since their flags had actually been banners of arms, they were automatically readopted as well.
