Vinkeveen village flag

The flag was adopted as the village flag of Vinkeveen at an unknown date around 2005. The flag is directly derived from the corresponding village coat of arms and consists of three parts. In the upper left corner is a dark blue area containing the yellow silhouette of a finch. Together with the peat blocks in the white area, this forms a striking element that refers to the village name. The flag of Vinkeveen also has several variations. One flag bears the text "Vinkeveen heeft meer" (Vinkeveen has more). The upper right area of the flag represents the flag of Waverveen, a village that was incorporated into the former municipality of Vinkeveen. https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlag_van_Vinkeveen

Variant flag

adopted c. 2000

Stefan Lambrechts spotted this village flag of Vinkeveen at an Ebay-page: The flag is white, with the coat of arms of the former municipality of Vinkeveen en Waverveen in Utrecht province, between vertical black letters "VINKEVEEN" and "HEEFT MEER" (= Vinkeveen has more)
That former municipality is now in De Ronde Venen.

The text is possibly a pun at the alternative name of the soccerclub "AFC AJAX-Amsterdan": "FC Vinkeveen" - in the 1970s some players became by their successes so rich that they could easily afford a Maserati and a bungalow in Vinkeveen. At the time Ajax' home was the Ajax-stadium in the Watergraafsmeer, in southeast Amsterdam, popularly known as "De Meer".
OTOH Vinkeveen is the center of the lake ("meer") area known as the Vinkeveense Plassen, so the MEER may refer to that; or "we've got more" may refer to the fact that the ordinary Vinkevener has got more (money).

Granted 10 Jun 1818

Vinkeveen and Waverveen formed one municipality, but each village had its own coat of arms. For Vinkeveen the finch made it canting, as well as the (light) peat blocks - "vink" = finch; "vink(e)" (old Dutch) = light peat; "veen" = peatground.
