The coat of arms of Villa de Cos was adopted in 2000 through a call for submissions from the council. Its designer is Dr. Pedro Lizardo Méndez, professor at the School of Bachelors in Villa de Cos. Below the shield is a ribbon reading "TERRA ARIDA ET HOMINIBUS MAGNAE" [Arid Land and Great Men]. The shield is crowned, having a cross at its top, symbolizing the Spanish era. To its sides are the words Burgo de San Cosme in ribbons, its original name until 1845. The shield is bordered in gold and red, having at the bottom Sep 27 1554 at its sides, the date the feast of San Cosme and Damián was celebrated. Another shield is contained here, having at its top a sun remembering the sunny environment. The upper section depicts a hacienda meant for the extraction of salt, with trees and a day laborer visible. To the lower-left, a door to the semidesert, recognizing its nickname [Puerto al Semidesierto Zacatecano]. To the lower-right, an image of José María de Cos y Pérez, who the municipality is named after.
