The coat of arms of Melchor Ocampo was adopted from the year 2010 under a call for submissions from the council. The winning design was by Jesús Hernández González, from the Jagüey community. In the sides of the border are lances, remembering conflict. At the bottom, the words MELCHOR OCAMPO, ZAC. In the bottom section (left) a yucca plant, prickly pear cactus, farmer tending to his agave plant (center) in a pot bearing the year 1857, probably remembering the start of the Reform War; to the right, a barrel and Pachycereus cactus. Overhead, a golden eagle flies; these plants remember the natural environment. In the upper-left section, the hill that is seen when entering the main town overlooking the valley and a tree. Overhead is the sun. To the upper-right, a main industry of the town is depicted, mining; a man in the mines pushes a minecart filled with minerals. In the center over a square, Saint Peter, the patron saint of the municipality, holds the keys to Heaven.
