The coat of arms of Valle de Santiago was designed by Óscar Arredondo Ramírez and adopted by Act No. 544 on 4 April 1989, by session of the council on 17 February. Over a parchment, a shield has a triangular point at the top which depicts Santiago the Apostle, patron saint of the Municipality. The second border to this shield reads "EL PAIS DE LAS 7 LUMINARIAS" [The Country of 7 Luminaries; its nickname] at the top; at the bottom, "VALLE DE SANTIAGO, GTO." The inner area of the shield is divided into two sections diagonally by a thunderbolt. The lower half depicts seven craters, because according to tradition the area has that many craters. The upper half depicts a constellation resembling the Big Dipper; some believe that the craters mirror the shape of this constellation. Above the parchment is a ribbon reading "SEA UNA LUMINARIA EN EL ESPIRITU DE LA PATRIA" [That it be a luminary in the spirit of the Fatherland]; and under, there are two ribbons reading "EL MUNDO ANTIGUO TIENE 7 MARAVILLAS" and "GUANAJUATO EN VALLE DE SANTIAGO 7 LUMINARIAS" [The Old world has 7 marvels; in Guanajuato in Valle de Santiago 7 Luminaries"]

The previous coat of arms was designed by Don Miguel Arredondo Baca, and adopted by initiative of the State Government which asked for all municipalities and states to submit a coat of arms to use in an exhibit on the date of the capture of Alhóndiga de Granaditas, and honoring Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla's bicentenary of birth from a few months before; this happened in 1953, and the symbol was adopted through a call for submissions from the council. Description according to wikipedia:
It is composed by a half oval with three sections surrounded by a frame in relief, which says Valle de Santiago in the lower part and Triumphus noster tria in the upper, phrase that signifies "Triumph is ours with these three things". In the first section, to the center, the image of Santiago the Apostle; in the lower part of the same section the word Camémbaro [indigenous name]. In the central section, it has to the background an artistic illustration with seven volcanos, and floating in the space a book that represents the written history and to write itself, and in the lower section appears a fertile field surrorunded by mountains in full production.
