The council informed me their flag was adopted during this term, under Municipal President Juan Carlos Castillo Cantero (2024-2027). It was adopted to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the state.

Coat of Arms

The coat of arms was adopted during the term of Municipal President José Refugio Acosta Escobar (1980-1982). It was designed by the artist from Pénjamo named Nicolás Ventura. The shield has a red border, which reads "LABOR UNITAS ET VIRTUS" [LABOR UNITY AND VIRTUE]. Hanging from the shield are two tassels. In the inner area of the coat of arms, the Sierra de Huanímaro mountain range is depicted, with the Cerrito de la Cruz hill being highlighted with a cross over it, hence its name. In front of this are two monarch butterflies in migration, remembering that Huanímaro means "Place of Butterflies". By the mountains, a grassland of the Bajío is depicted, divided by the Lerma River. An artificial waterfall is formed by a dike built by Markassuza in 1987. Over the shield is a ribbon reading "SN JUAN HUANIMARO MIRAMAR", referring to the patron saint of the Municipality, name, and alluding to the view from the Cerrito de la Cruz. Over the ribbon is a crown.
