Vép is a town in Szombathely district of Vas county.
In Roman times, Vép was a suburb of ancient Savaria, where the Roman road from Savaria to present-day Sárvár passed.
Later, from the 7th-8th century, a Slavic village may have been located on the site of the Roman settlement, which is also indicated by the name of the settlement.
The present-day settlement is first mentioned as Wepy in 1186, when King Béla III had his courtiers registered.
In 1386, King Sigismund donated Vép to the Elderbach family. In 1496, János Elderbach left his property to Tamás Erdődy Bakócz, Archbishop of Esztergom.
From then on, Vép became the property of the Erdődys. The history of the settlement is inseparable from the life of the Erdődys family, who owned it at the time.
Vép was declared a large village in 1925. Vép has been a town since July 1, 2009.

The coat of arms is a shield with blue field, with yellow colors, the upper part of a half-carriage wheel with 3 degrees.
Above the cartwheel is a church with an arched entrance, 3 windows, and 1 window on each of the two side wings, whose pointed double cross tower rises above the building.
Next to the tower is the sun on the left and the crescent moon on the right.
The coat of arms was based on the blue shield of the Erdődy family coat of arms, which played a significant role in the history of Vép.
The wheel in the Erdődy coat of arms is gold, and the church in the Vép coat of arms is also gold in color.
This coat of arms was adopted by the same Municipal Decree.
