Overview

Nyírbogát is a town in Nyírbátor district in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary.
The village has been the site of human habitation since the stone age. Its name first appears in writing in 1310, as the name of a local noble. Its earliest landowners were members of the Kállay family, who held titles to the village's land until the end of the 1300s.

The Flag

Its flag is white charged with its coat of arms in the center of the flag. The name of the town is written under the coat of arms. Its three free borders are decorated with red and green triangles (wolf-teeth). Ratio is 1:2.
The flag was adopted in 1994.

The Coat of Arms


The shield of its coat of arms is divided into four parts, two red and two blue quarters. The first red quarter depicts an armed shied holding a sword, it defends the settlement. The second blue quarter is charged with church. The third blue quarter shows a tobacco plant on green field, while last red quarter shows a yellow wheat crop. The Latin motto is placed is under the shield: "Suum cuique" - "to each his own" (must be given). The wheat sheaf and tobacco symbolize the diligence of the people living in the settlement and the characteristic crops of the landscape. The crest is a knight's helmet.
The coat of arms was adopted in 1994.
