Pilisvörösvár is a town in northwestern Pest county, located in Budapest metropolitan area, district seat of Pilisvörösvár district.
In Roman times, there was a relief camp in the part of the city called Karátsonyi-liget (formerly Szabadságliget),
which was probably established during or around the reign of Emperor Trajan.
In the Middle Ages, there were several villages on the site of the present-day city or in its immediate vicinity;
most of these may have existed even before the Tatar invasion, most of them were later destroyed during the Turkish occupation.
After the capture of Buda by the Turks (1541), the Pilis region also fell into Turkish hands. During Turkish rule, the region was the scene of military operations.
The military events associated with the expulsion of the Turks from Hungary, and especially the siege of Buda Castle, made the entire area virtually uninhabited,
so the first Swabian settlers appeared in today's Vörösvár in 1689; at that time, Vörösvár was the name of the settlement founded here (this changed to Pilisvörösvár in 1900).
The settlement received town status in 1997.

The flag was originally adopted in April 1991. The current legislation is 16/2000. (IX. 25.), adopted on 25 September 2000.

The basic color of the coat of arms is blue. In the lower half of the shield is the entrance to a red palanquin castle with a raised grille.
The castle refers to the origin and name of the settlement. In 1543, Lala Mustafa had a palanquin castle built in this area to protect the road between Buda and Esztergom.
The castle was made of stone, brick, palanquin and red clay. The castle shone from afar, which is why the Turks called it the red palanquin castle, Vörösvár.
Above the castle, in the blue field, there is a silver, single-headed, sideways-looking eagle with outstretched wings.
The silver eagle refers to the German origin of the population, the first German settlers appeared in the city in 1689.
The coat of arms was adopted in April 1991.
