Pomáz is a town in Szentendre district of Pest County, located in Budapest metropolitan area, north from Budapest.
Pomáz has been inhabited since ancient times. Traces of Neolithic, Copper and Bronze Age burials have also been found, and then Scythian and Celtic inhabitants preceded the Romans.
Its first written mention is known from 1138: Béla Vak had a document recorded that the village was then the property of the Dömös Abbey.
A deed of donation dated the following century, in 1277, shows that King László IV had Pomáz estates, which he donated to Princess Elizabeth and the nuns of the island.
In 1348, a flood devastated the area, and a plague epidemic subsequently decimated the population.
By the beginning of the 20th century, it became the district seat, and the settlement was granted city status in 2000.

The coat of arms is an oval shield, with a five-branched tree standing on a green mound in a silver field. It is surrounded by a golden decoration,
from the symmetrical center of which a cross made of a sphere above the coat of arms field, a multi-branched star on a stem to the right of it in an oblique plane,
and a double cross at an angle from the cross are visible. At the base of the coat of arms, in a frame stylized as a scroll, the inscription Pomáz can be read.
The green mound symbolizes the mountains and hills of the city, the tree growing out of it symbolizes the fruit-growing tradition of the city,
the five branches symbolize the Hungarian, German, Serbian, Slovak and Gypsy nationalities living here. The cross at the top of the coat of arms symbolizes the Roman Catholics,
the multi-branched star the Reformed and Lutheran, and the double cross the Serbian Orthodox.
The coat of arms was adopted by the same Municipal Decree.
