Overview

Kiskunlacháza is a town located in Ráckeve district in south-western part of Pest county in the northern part of Central Hungary, approximately 4 miles from the Danube river. It was formed from the merger of two formerly independent villages, Kiskunlacháza (Lacháza), a predominantly Protestant and wealthy village and Pereg a mostly Catholic and rural village, and then officially merged (1950), and is now considered the largest settlement in the area. The President of Republic granted town status for Kiskunlacháza on 01 September 2021.
The first known name of the village, named after the inhabitants of Kiskun and the medieval landowner Lack family, is Szántó, which is first mentioned in a document in 1285. Pereg also existed in the Middle Ages, and there are references to it in several places from the early 1300s. During the 150 years of Turkish rule, Lacháza was forced to flee several times, and Pereg became a wasteland.
Its population is about 9100 persons (by 2022 Census).

The Coat of Arms

The current coat of arms adopted in 2023 by the same Municipal Decree. Before that, the coats of arms of the two parts of the settlement were used in parallel. The designer of current coat of arms, András Somogyi, unified these two coats of arms into one, forming the new coat of arms, symbolizing the merger of the two settlements. It is quite interesting that two flags were used together in early of 2024, too.
