Besenyszög is a town in Szolnok district of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, in the Northern Great Plain region of central Hungary.
The settlement was named after the Besen river. This name preserves the memory of the Pecheneg people.
The area was inhabited as early as the Neolithic period. The present settlement was formed between 1771 and 1774 from four destroyed medieval villages.
The village's borders were the scene of significant military events in 1944, due to its proximity to Szolnok.
On July 15, 2013, it received the title of city from the President of the Republic.

Its flag is light blue charged with its coat of arms.
The symbols of the settlement were adopted by Municipal Degree no. 15/1999. (VII.31.) on 31 July 1999.
Based on text of the Decree, the name of the town is written in arc under the shield, but it isn’t seen on real flags.

Interestingly, these two photos show what seems to be the same exact
flag, and were surely taken at the same location and time, but on the
2nd photo the flag cloth background seems to be white, instead of pale
blue, surely due to some technical photographic issue.

Its shield is divided horizontally. On the blue background of the shield head, symbolic red and gold flowers can be seen, referring to the former territorial units of the village:
Szög, Szentiván, Fokoru, Szászberek.
On the lower, red field of the shield, the former village seal, a floating silver lamb with a golden halo turned to the right, holding a church flag with its front paw, can be seen.

A large (2000×2411 px) size image (in PNG but with JPEG haze!) is at

On a cursory browsing, this seems to be used throughout the website, as part of its masthead.
The style of the heraldic illustration is clearly different from what the photos show as used on the flag
— also interestingly.
This image shows yet a third variation of this same design, namely on
what concerns the size and placement of the labarum, and the presence
of tassles at its tips, among other details. The original image is at
