Flag of Berek

The symbols of Berek were designed by Berislav Schejbal, an archaeologist in the Museum of Daruvar, with a number of scientific works published in journals, who kindly provided drawings and information used on this page.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, in the middle.

A report by Super Radio, 30 December 2011 (text) describes the flag as "purple"; possibly, the journalists intended to say "dark blue".
Another report by Krugoval Radio, dated 23 November 2011 (text) states that the flag has a "yellow-green" background; possibly the journalist mistook the municipal flag for the county flag, which is indeed horizontally divided yellow-green.

The description of the coat of arms given by the designer is u žutome polju smeđi kotač nadvisuje crvena heraldička ruža, more or less, "or a wheel proper and in the chief a rose gules". The designer's explanation for the "historical background" of the coat of arms is:

The emblems refer to two local legends. The rose stands for the noble Ružica (Rosey), the daughter of Duke Milovuk and Duchess Milica, lords of the town of Garić (Garigh, 12th century), who managed to save her father from the dungeons of Jelen-grad. The wheel stands for a legend from the period of feudal labour duties: a stone found mercy to the hard labours of serfs and draught animals and broke apart to enable easier passage for them (Pukli kamen - the split stone, a locality in vicinity).
