La Motte-Servolex (12,299 inhabitants in 2021; 2,985 ha) is a commune in the Savoie department, next to Chambéry.
The current name of the commune results from the union, decided in 1794, of the two parishes hitherto independent of each other: La Motte-Montfort and Servolex. The name of La Motte-Montfort Servolex was used until 1806, when it was simplified. The name of La Motte Montfort finds its origin with the mound and the seigniory which developed there. The second part of the name of the current town comes from Servolex (Cervollay), a whole town included in the territory of La Motte-Montfort. The first mention of Cervollay dates from 1100. Its name derives from Sarvaz, designating a small forest.
A priory, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and placed under the rule of Saint-Augustin, developed from the 12th century in La Motte-Montfort. On the mound sits the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and on the sides of which were built a priory (demolished in 1925) and a castle (now a private technical school). It is at the foot of the mound that the "centre" gradually took shape, first a simple village, then a town.

La Motte-Servolex is twinned with Mundelsheim (Baden-Württemberg, Germany). In Mundelsheim, a white banner with the coat of arms of La Motte-Servolex can be seen.
The arms, adopted in 1973, are blazoned:
Party per bend, 1. gironny of 6 azure and gules, debruised by two hands clasped Or, a canton at senester Gules a cross Argent, 2. Azure three apples Or in orle; overall a bendlet Or.
