City of Mettmann Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue shield are two golden (= yellow) churches connected by a gate lodge of the same colour. The tower on the dexter side has a steeple, that one on the sinister side a bulbous spire. All the three elements have closed blue gates and blue windows. They are all crowned by golden (= yellow) weathercocks. In the middle above the gate lodge are (ordered vertically from top to bottom) a coronet, a horizontal sceptre and a chest, all elements are golden (=yellow).
Meaning:
According to source the churches are the local churches of the Protestants and the Catholics. The other elements are ensigns of the local guilds. Source: Stadler 1972, p.69 According to §1(2) of Hauptsatzung of the city of Mettmann version 7 October 2010, just the "colours", not a flag is mentioned. The description there matches that one given in Stadler 1972. Klaus-Michael Schneider, 9 Nov 2011
