The municipality of Calmon (3,380 inhabitants in 2010; 63,953 ha) is located
on the border with Paraná, 300 km north-west of Florianópolis.
Calmon,
originally known as São Roque, was renamed to Calmon in 1909, following the
inauguration of the railway station by Miguel Calmon Dunn Pin e Almeida,
Minister of Transport and Public Works. South America's second biggest sawmill
was located in Calmon. During the Contestado War, the rebels burned down the
station and the sawmill on 5 September 1914.
Fish River, the most important
river in Santa Catarin midwest, has its source in Calmon.
