The municipality of Agronômica (5,448 inhabitants in 2019, 12,977 ha) is
located 275 km west of Florianópolis.
Agronômica was established, as
Pastagem (Pasture), in 1909 by German and Italian colonists. Pastagem was
elevated to a district of Rio do Sul in 1961.
The municipality of Agronômica
was established on 8 April 1964 and inaugurated on 6 June 1964.
Agronômica is
the "World Champion of Irrigated Rice".

The coat of arms of Agronômica is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 81
promulgated on 7 July 1971.
Article 2.
The coat of arms shall have the
following features.
1 - A shield surmounted by a mural crown proper to
municipalities.
2 - Between the mural crown and the shield, a five-pointed
star symbolizing the intelligence and positive energy of the municipality's
inhabitants.
3 - The shield shall be divided into two quarters:
a) In the
upper part of the shield's upper quarter is placed a cross representing faith
and daily sacrifice of the citizens to contribute to the municipality's
progress.
b) In the cross' background, a radiating sun symbolizing glee and
collective effort for the municipality's increase.
c) Beneath the cross, a
field plowed by a farmer with primitive means - plow and horse - to plant crop
resources, namely tobacco, cassava and rice.
d) Beneath, tobacco, cassava and
rice, the main sources of agricultural income for the municipality.
4 - In
the lower quarter, a factory representing the municipality's progressive
industrialization.
5 - Beneath the shield, a scroll inscribed with the
municipality's name "AGRONÔMICA" and date of creation, "08/04/1964".
