The actual Club flag is an oblong version (see on new website)
Doug Wilson, Past Commodore, 30 April 2007

The club's Past Commodore Doug Wilson mentioned that the actual club flag was oblong, but did not mention what the burgee shape is used for. According to the newsletter for the yacht club, both do exist for the yacht club, but whether the oblong version is intended as club flag, used on land and the burgee as club standard, on board, it doesn't say. I've also not been able to find By Laws to confirm the descriptions; that part of the club rules may not be on-line.
Peter Hans van den Muijzenberg, 30 March 2012

The newsletter (March 2012, at least) calls them burgees and large flags - perhaps the oblong version is used whenever a larger flying object is required. I don't know whether references to the "club flag" as a class flag for races should be read to mean a rectangular one rather than a burgee.
