Description

A news report today says the UAE has adopted a new, or rather modified, coat of arms: http://www.gulfnews.com/nation/Government/10199698.html
The report's illustration of the new arms.
The essential changes are that the dhow on the bird has been replaced by a flag pattern surrounded by seven stars, one for each emirate. There is also a new font for the inscription on the ribbon.
This is confirmed by a short news story on the Government's portal UAE Interact: http://www.uaeinteract.com/docs/New_UAE_coat_of_arms_approved/29269.htm
I have been unable to locate any further official description or legislation on the new coat of arms.

I wonder if the lenticular fisheye effect of the inset flag is by design or artistic license? It looks like a porthole....

For those who are interested, the Wikipedia in Arabic language shows the large and clear image of the new enmblem of UAE reported by Jan Oskar.
Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Arab_Emirates and click on the third language in the languages box on the left of the screen (direct link has a way too long url).

Some days ago I found out that already on 22 March 2008 the coat of arms from 1971 of the United Arab Emirates has changed respectively was modified. The Dau (Arab sailing ship) on the breast shield of the falcon was substituted by the colours of the flag. Further the previous golden script of the state motto on the red ribbon under the falcon was substituted by a white script. Therefore also the presidential standard (flag of the reigned Amir as chairman of the council of rulers) has changed.

The coat of arms consists of a golden Hawk of Quraish with a disk on its breast, which shows the UAE flag and seven stars representing the seven Emirates of the federation. The bird has seven tail feathers also representing the seven Emirates, and holds with its talons a red parchment bearing the name of the federation in Kufic script.

National flag with the state coat of arms in the middle of the white stripe. Source: Album des Pavillons 2000. The arms on my image is based on the Corel clipart coloured by me according to Album des Pavillons 2000 and a few other images of it. I am not sure (though it is not quite visible in this size) what is the colour of the field between the red disk and the white ornament around it — whether it is white or golden.
