Originally founded on 7 August 1972 in Montevideo, "Liceo No. 29" was
named for Pr. Alicia Goyena by Law No. 15,311 on 16 August 1982.
Alicia Goyena (1897-1977) was Professor of American History (1918) and
Literature (1922) at the Instituto Battle y Ordoñez (IBO), founded in
1922 for the womens' education and their incorporation to an active
social and cultural life, and eventually appointed Director of the IBO
in 1944.
The flag of the Liceo is presented graphically as a green flag with a
white border and the emblem of the Liceo shifted to the hoist. The
emblem is made of a white rectangle charged with a yellow half sun,
surmonting "L 29" in white characters, inscribed in a square; "ALICIA
GOYENA" is written in white letters, vertically on the right side of
the emblem.
Photos taken during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the
foundation of the Liceo show a flag differing in the details from the
graphic representation described above.
The flag hoisted on the stage has a dark green colour and the emblem
centered. Another "flag" is shown in front of the cakes' table with a
light green background and no writing, but I am not sure this is
really a flag.
