The New England Patriots are an American football team who compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the American Football Conference (AFC) East division. Originally organized in the defunct American Football League (AFL) as the Boston Patriots in 1960, the franchise has remained in the Boston area since that time. They briefly changed their name to the Bay State Patriots after moving their home games to the Foxborough Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts in 1971, but renamed themselves the New England Patriots the next season. Foxborough is a suburb community of Boston located about 20 miles from the downtown area. At the start of the 2002 season they moved to the newly built Gillette Stadium which replaced the old Foxborough Stadium..
The Patriots have appeared in the Super Bowl eight times in franchise history, and are considered one of the most successful teams in NFL history, winning 12 AFC East titles in 14 seasons since 2001.
Note: Be aware that there are a host of manufacturer's variants of these and other fan flags being marketed for "Niner" fans. This includes garden flags, banners, and pennants.

Called the Patriot "Throwback" Flag, this fan flag features the old AFL "Patriot Pat" logo - although I'm told some die heart Patriot fans also remember calling him "Patriot Joe". This logo was used by the franchise through 1992, and still appears on fan memorabilia like T-shirts, mugs, etc. .

These popular New England fan flags are made for the "Man Cave." Apparently there are currently two licensed variants being sold. I've seen similar designs for most NFL teams.
