Description of the flag

The flag was adopted as part of a community flag contest organized by the Richwood village council. The vision for a flag was created so that if a village employee or dignitary dies, the village can lower a village flag without waiting for the state of the federals governments to give authorization to lower their respective flags. The deadline submission date was November 23, 2015, where the winner would be revealed. The winner was then village council member George Showalter. He won a free one year subscription to The Richwood Gazette.

The Richwood Village Council met Monday evening and a topic of flag etiquette was discussed. It seems that the only person who can call for a flag to be at half-staff is the President of the United States. Should a village employee or dignitary from the village pass away, the village flag can be flown at half staff. So, Mayor Scott Jerew and council have decided to sponsor a contest to have someone design a flag for the village.
The contest is open to anyone. It should be a rendition of what Richwood reflects and the highlights of the village. The deadline to submit a proposed design for a village flag is Monday Nov. 23 by noon. Designs can be submitted to the water clerk's office, 153 N. Franklin Street, along with the address and phone number of the person submitting the design. Council will select the winning design and the winner will receive a one-year free subscription to The Richwood Gazette, compliments of Mayor Jerew

Council Member George Showalter won the contest and will receive a subscription to The Richwood Gazette, sponsored by Mayor Scott Jerew. Showalter thought the sign should represent what the village was originally founded upon, a place that was "rich with wood." After the flag is produced, it will be flowe at the Village Administration Building, at 153 N. Franklin Street, with the other flags.

The village officials sent me a digitalized graphic of the flag, which I have attached
