Hidalgo County's flag can be seen on Twitter. It is similar in form to the
New Mexico state flag, having a yellow field and a Zia sun symbol in black.
Within the circular part of the symbol lies a simplified map of New Mexico,
which itself has an image associated with the state; it depicts a sandy hill by
which a yucca plant grows, mountains in the background, and the sky above. A 3D
map of the county in brown extends outside of the state for emphasis. Finally,
beside the sun symbol's rays are the words "HIDALGO COUNTY".
It appears
the flag was adopted in 1992 for display in the New Mexico Capitol Rotunda. The
design of the seal was done by county manager Tom Anderson, while county
commissioner Joe Burgess did the rest of the design.

In 1975, a small Hidalgo County flag was designed with plans to send to Santa
Fe to hang for the Bicentennial. It was designed by Norma Badders, who did most
of the needlepoint.
