In 1969 a competition was held to redesign the town seal. The winning seal was designed by Bob Thompson but was rejected by the Selectmen as the official town seal. In 1971 the Carlisle Minutemen wished to have a town flag that could be carried during the US Bicentennial Celebration. A 38 x 48-inch flag with the proposed town seal was sewn by Beverly Heath. In 1973 the flag was adopted as the official town flag and kept in possession of the Captain of the Minutemen. In 2019, Carlisle was recognized to be one of the few towns not to have a flag displayed in the Massachusetts State House. Work on a 48 x 72-inch replica of the official flag was started by Barbara Lewis and was completed in January 2025 by Mary Beth Stevenson.
