The Coat of Arms of Montpelier consists of a two colors, White and Blue. The arms is diagonally bisected by a blue line with the city's name on it, along with the state abbreviation 'IND'. On the blue half are the white outlines of an Indian head and a horse-drawn carriage, representing the precolonial and early history of Montpelier. on the white half is a blue oil derrick, early excavator, and an oil pump. This represents the industrial era of Montpelier and its gas boom.
