Description of the flag

The flag is a white field with four corner triangles of red and blue facing away from the center. In the central vertical bar is the state outline of Illinois in blue with a white star marking the village's location in the state. Above the state is the village's name, with the incorporation year near the bottom of the state. Under the date is a depiction of the old Marissa Academy building which was built in 1886, and is a historic landmark. On the hoist side is a plough with three wheat plants around it, representing agriculture. On the fly side is a pickaxe with what appears to be a mine cart next to it, representing the former coal industry.
