Official flag and Coat of Arms of Kherson oblast have been adopted on October
25, 2001. Images of both symbols can be seen at www.reporter.kherson.ua.
A contest was launched six months earlier and about 70 proposals
have
been sent. You can see some of them at www.reporter.kherson.ua/gerb_exgib.php.
Proposals seem not to have had much weight as Coat of Arms and
flag are different from all these proposals.

Authors of flag: Sergei Sazonov, Yuri Schepelev.

Actually, I would say the finished product is based on the
second image, which got 58 out of about 200 votes (the most of
any of these proposals). It has been modified, but I wouldn't say
it's totally different.
