Meaning:
The bramble (Port.: silva) branches are canting elements.

Silva Escura Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Sever do Vouga Municipality; it had 1592 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 14.2 km².

Shield Vert, issuant from base a triplemount Argent, issuant from its peaks two trees Or leaved Argent, in chief a Marian crown Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "DORNELAS - SEVER DO VOUGA".
Meaning:
Mount and trees are representing Serra do Arestal, an overgrown local ridge. The crown is representing Our Lady of Fátima, the local patron saint. Furthermore it is a symbol of peace.
