First mentioned in written documents in 1442. It was a dairy town famous
for its eggs.
On August 11, 1942, at 8 AM, a company of the Gestapo and a unit of
the Russian Liberation Army (Vlasov Army) surrounded the local ghetto and
by 7 PM one thousand Poles of Jewish origin were shot to death - small
children had their skulls crashed by hitting their heads against the trees.
Arms and flag adopted on April 6,2009
"Arms: on the blue field a half-third of the silver cross above the
two golden laurel branches.
Flag: rectangular in the ratio 5:8, composed of three vertical bands
in proportions 1:4:1 where the extreme bands (narrow) are blue and the
middle (wide) band is white. On the middle band the Arms are placed."
The new symbols have to be approved by the Heraldic Commission of the
Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration in Warsaw, but it shouldn't
be any problem.
