Town rights received in 1412.
Important center of Calvinism and Arianism.
Completely destroyed during the Swedish Deluge.
After partitions, under Prussian occupation.
1809 - within Grand Duchy of Warsaw.
In 1939 - heavy fighting - defense of the town led by Gen.Leopold Cehak.
German Gen.Dill was killed in that battle. In revenge, the Luftwaffe destroyed
the town completely in the next three days. Only 4 buildings remained standing.
Consequently, the name of the town was changed to honor the fallen general.
All Jewish population removed to the concentration camps. Recovered
the city rights in 1994.
Football (soccer) club - KS Warta Działoszyn. Most famous player: Robert
Warzycha (later of Chicago Fire).
Arms adopted on March 31, 2003 (resolution # V/36/2003).
Flag adopted on September 30, 2008 (resolution # XXV/147/08).
"Arms: on a Spanish-style, golden shield an image of a defensive wall
with three towers, the one in the middle taller than the side ones. All
red. The shooting openings - black. In the second and third elevation of
the defensive wall (red) there are golden cannonballs.
Flag: a golden (yellow) rectangle in the ratio 5:8 with the Arms placed
in its middle."
