I rødt fire gull kroner, 1-1-1-1. In English: Gules four crowns or in pale.
Approved by the royal resolution of 24 May 1984 after a drawing by Christian
Egemar. [c2j87]
The graphic material for the use of Hole arms
here includes the regulations,
mentioning the flag to be "rectangular (or square) shaped" - and I take it to
mean that the exact ratio is not prescribed.
The same page, and even better at
here, includes the background story of the arms - symbolising four Norwegian
kings from the sagas who had strong connection with Hole. The kings are Halvdan
The Black (Halvdan Svarte), Sigurd The Sou (Sigurd Syr), St. Olav Haraldsson,
and Harald The Strong (Harald Hardråde).
The design is actually inspired with an emblem used by the municipality prior to
adoption of these arms. Four crowns one over the other flanked with two apple
branches were set as gilded bronze decoration on the municipal building by Nic.
Schiøll (as mentioned
here) like may be seen on the balcony behind these soldiers during an
exercise in 2010; or
here. A graphic emblem of the same crowns between the apple branches was in
use prior to 1985.
