Coat of Arms

[COA of Nordre Land] image by Tomislav Šipek, 04 December 2015

Blazon: I blått to oppvoksende adosserte gull fløterhaker. In English: Azure two log-driving hooks or addorsed issuant from the base.
Approved by the crownprince-regent resolution of 20 November 1987 anfer a drawing by Dag Magne Staurheim. [c2j88] (also stating it was a royal resolution, but I would follow the legal source above for that detail.) http://www.nordre-land.kommune.no/kommunevaapen-for-nordre-land.537116-86430.html
(also providing detail that Staurheim originates from Bø in Telemark but now from Torpa).
The municipal site explains that such hooks were used by loggers, following the rich municipal tradition in logging. It further explains that each smith had its own design for the hooks, and those depicted are the type that were manufactured by one of the most famous N.L. smiths, one Kristian Halden (1867-1956). These were popular among loggers and called "Halden poles"
