On 1 Jan Mariekerke became part of Veere municipality.
In 1966 Meliskerke, Aagtekerke and Grijpskerke merged to form the new
municipality of Mariekerke. It had a population of 3300 on an area of 34,82
km²; Settlements: Aagtekerke, Buttinge, Grijpskerke, Klein Mariekerke,
Meliskerke (seat), Molembaix, Pompendamme.
The lady at the hoist of the flag is not Marie, but St. Agatha, from
the arms of the former municipality of Aagtekerke.

Meliskerke was an independent municipality 1811-1966 with a population
of 500.
Flag: black with in the center a white chevron; at the hoist two yellow
6-pointed stars.
This flag was adopted 4 Sep 1962 ny municipal resolution; form, colors,
and symbols are derived from the municipal arms.
