On 27 March 2009, "PZC" (Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant) announced quite laconically that Ouwerkerk has been designed a flag by Hans van Heijningen. Based on the arms of the village, dating back to 1817, the flag exists in two sides, a big one for hoisting on a pole and a smaller one for hoisting on facade.
Ouwerkerk was part of the municipality of Duiveland, subsequently incorporated to Schouwen-Duiveland.

The "Heraldry of the World" website shows the arms of Ouwekerk as "Per pale serrated sable and  argent a chief or".
The former arms of Duiveland are similar, but with three blue diamonds added in the chief. The matching flag is a banner of the arms orthogonally rotated. We may expect the Ouwerkerk flag to follow the same pattern.

I was approached and proposed a BoA: two stripes 1:3; the top yellow; bottom over the ventral 1/3 flaglength like two vertical stripes indented of black and white with three black dents and one half black dent issuing from the dividing line.
The old arms of Ouwerkerk occurred with dents touching the shield-edge and also not-touching. The last form was confirmed in 1817. It is so unique that it was obvious to opt for a BoA. Like Sirjansland.
