The municipality of Aerodrom (72,009 inhabitants; 20 sq. km; municipal website), one of the ten municipalities forming the town of Skoplje, was formed on 12 April 2005 (first session of the Municipal Council); beforehand, it was part of the municipality of Kisela Voda. The municipality is made of the settlements of Aerodrom, Mičurin, Jane Sandanski, Lisiče, Novo Lisiče, Regionalen Čentar, Gorno Lisiče and Dolno Lisiče.
The municipality is named after the former Skopje airport, destroyed by the Germans in April 1941. The airport, then located at the farther end of the town of Skopje in the borough of Aerodrom, was inaugurated on 15 June 1928 by a "Potez-29" aircraft with five passengers. In 1929, the first scheduled line, Thessalonica-Skopje-Belgrade, was opened. Amy Johnson, one of the world's first female pilots, landed at the airport in 1930, on her way from Australia to London.

The first municipal flag of Aerodrom, adopted by the Municipal Council on 18 November 2005, was designed by Ljupco Djurovski.
Abolished by the Municipal Council on 4 January 2006, due to irregularities during the contest, the very same symbols were readopted on 31 August 2006, following the choice made by the Commission ad hoc on 23 August.
The coat of arms of the municipality of Aerodrom has the shape of a
rounded triangle shield in dark red color. A golden sun disk with
yellow rays overlaps with the shield, as a symbol of warmth and
hospitality. The sun dominates the composition, being the most
expressive Macedonian symbol, while the municipality of Aerodrom and
its inhabitants are well-known of their special feeling for
preservation of national pride and traditions and values, which
centuries on end have been accumulating in our collective awareness as
one united Macedonian code. Under the sun lies a stylized letter "A". Apart from being the initial letter of the municipality's
name, its shape also associates of a dynamic crossroads, which
incorporates the communication feature of the municipality of
Aerodrom.
The flag has a rectangular shape in red and yellow color, in
the midst of which the municipal coat of arms rests.
