The municipality of Ota (Corsican, Otta; 596 inhabitants in 2013; 3,816 ha) is located half-distance (80 km) of Ajaccio and Calvi. The municipality is made of the village of Ota and its marine (port), Porto (Portu).

Ota, located 327 m above sea level, is surrounded by two mountain ranges, U Capu Vitullu and U Capu d'Ortu, which are separated by a pass (Foce d'Ortu). Capu d'Ortu is flanked by three stone needles known as E tre Signore (The Three Ladies). The village itself is dominated by U Capu d'Ota (1,220 m); the rock that surmounts the mountain is locally said to be maintained by chains manned by powerful monks.

Porto, located at the end of the Gulf of Porto, has a traditional fishing port, a beach and a modern marina (Porto Marina). The Gulf of Porto: Calanche of Piana, Gulf of Girolata, Scandola Reserve was inscribed in 1983 on the UNESCO World Heritage List, with the following description:

The nature reserve, which is part of the Regional Natural Park of Corsica, occupies the Scandola peninsula, an impressive, porphyritic rock mass. The vegetation is an outstanding example of shrubland. Seagulls, cormorants and sea eagles can be found there. The clear waters, with their islets and inaccessible caves, host a rich marine life.

Flag of Ota

The flag of Ota is white with the municipal emblem, which features the Genoese tower of Porto.
Built in the 16th century to watch the entrance of the Gulf of Porto, the tower of Porto is one of the four square Genoese towers still standing in Corsica. The upper part of the tower housed the garrison, while its lower part formed a water tank. Registered in 1946 as an Historical Monument, the tower of Porto was completely restored in 1993
