The municipality of Aledo (986 inhabitants in 2014; 4,974 ha; municipal website) is located in the south-west of the Region of Murcia, 60 km of Murcia.
Aledo was first documented, as a Moorish fortress, in the 10th
century. After the Christian reconquest, the town was granted by King
Alfonso X the Wise - who is said to have written parts of the
Partidas in the castle of Aledo - to the Master of the Order of St. James, Palay Pérez Correa.
Aledo was granted municipal rights on 25 July 1592, which is
remembered by a pillory, the only one preserved until now in the
Region of Murcia.

The flag of Aledo is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 25 July 2002 by
the Municipal Council, signed on 1 August 2002 by the Mayor, and
published on 26 August 2002 in the official gazette of the Region of
Murcia, No. 197, p. 12,411 (text). The Decree does not appear to have been
validated by the Government of the Region of Murcia.
The flag is not described in the Decree.
