The municipality of Madarcos (47 inhabitants in 2014, therefore the least populated municipality in the Community; 846 ha; municipal website) is located in the north of the Community of Madrid.
Madarcos was not mentioned until the 18th century. Remains of a medieval settlement were excavated in La Nava, today a deserted place; different sources confirm that the parish of Santa Cruz de la Nava existed there.

The flag (photos, photo, photo) and arms of Madarcos are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 9 February 1995 by the Government of the Community of Madrid and published on 18 April 1995 in the Spanish official gazette, No. 92, p. 11,429 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: In proportions 2:3, horizontally divided in two halves, the upper, green, and the lower, red. In the center the municipal coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Per fess wavy argent (two) and azure (one), 1. Argent a trout (rectilinear) or, 2. Vert a sundial argent (made of a granite cylinder equipped with an iron rod). The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
The Madarcos sundial is located outside the village, in the place called La Peña de la Vez. Erected near the old village's fountain, it was used to implement the irrigation schedule. Water was supplied by a collective canal coming from Robregrodo, irrigating flax, wheat and rye fields, orchards and vegetable gardens.
