The flag (photo,
photo) and arms of Portaje, adopted on 30 November 1990 and 22 October 1992 by the Municipal Council and validated on 28 January and 15 September 1992 by the Assessing Council of Honors and Distinctions of the Government of Extremadura, are prescribed by an Order issued on 24 September 1992 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 1 October 1992 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 77, p. 2,211 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3. Composed of three vertical stripes, blue at hoist, green in the center, and white at fly, in respective proportions 1:5, 1:5 and 3:5 of the flag's length, the white stripe charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Azure a mountain vert charged with a path or in chief a coin argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
The Royal Academy of History validated the proposed arms, which were designed from scratch. The Pyrenean broom makes the arms canting, while the wolves come from the canting arms of priest Lobera. The Academy seems to have recommended to drop the bordure for the sake of simplicity.
