The municipality of Gargüera (aka Gargüera de la Vera; 133 inhabitants in 2017; 5,152 ha; municipal website) is located 110 km north-east of Cáceres and 20 km east of Plasencia.
Gargüera was resettled at the end of the 13th century by Leonese, Castilian and Asturian farmers. The village was a dependency of Plasencia.
The parish church was erected in the 16th century, 1.5 km away from the village, probably on the site of an old chapel. Another oddity is the cemetery, which is adjacent to the church.

Flag of Gargüera

The flag (photo, photo, photo) and arms of Gargüera, adopted on 13 March 2003 by the Municipal Council and validated on 29 April 2004 by the Assessing Council of Honors and Distinctions of the Government of Extremadura, are prescribed by an Order issued on 25 May 2004 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 22 June 2004 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 71, pp. 7,946-7,947 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3. Divided by a green bend in width 1/15 of the flag's width, white at hoist and yellow at fly. Charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms in full colors.
Coat of arms: Vert a collaret [gorguera] or surrounded by five roses argent and five fleurs-de-lis or alternate in orle. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
