Symbols of Jimena de la Frontera

The flag of Jimena de la Frontera (photo, photo, photo, photo) is vertically divided green-white-purple, with the municipal coat of arms in the center. The flag does not appear to have been officially registered.

The coat of arms of Jimena de la Frontera is prescribed by Royal Decree No. 2,757, signed on 6 October 1977 and published on 7 November 1977 in the Spanish official gazette, No. 266, p. 24,403 (text).
The "rehabilitated" coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Azure a rounded tower or masoned sable port and windows gules standing on a mount vert. The shield surmounted by a Marquis' coronet.

For whatever reason, the arms are not listed among those confirmed by a Resolution adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).

The joint proposal of municipal flag and arms, adopted on 5 November 1997 by the Municipal Council, was rejected on 19 November 1998 by the Royal Academy of Córdoba. The Academy state that the proposed coat of arms included more quarters than permitted [accordingly, this would have been a new design, different from the historical arms], and lacked proper elements representative of the place, its environment and its history.
Informed of 2 December 1998 by the Academy, the municipality failed to present an amended proposal in due time (5 months). The process of adoption of the municipal symbols was declared null and void by a Resolution adopted on 8 October 1999 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 6 November 1999 in the Andalusian official gazette, No. 129 (text).
