The municipal arms are the personal arms of Benedikt Denzel, abbot of the Benedictine Ochsenhausen Monastery, which was founded in 1099, from 1737 until 1769. He built the parish church of Winterrieden between 1751 and 1755. His arms can be seen on the archway. Monastery and village had close relationships for more than seven centuries. The monastery had been also local ruler until 1803. The estates were owned by the monastery, the Bishopric of Augsburg, which owned a bit more than 25%, and minor vassals.
