Meaning:
The falcon is taken from the arms of the Counts of Falkenstein, who became extinct in 1272. The tinctures are known since 1605 and also the necklace as a distinguishing mark. The nearby Auerburg castle was a possession of the counts between 1180 and 1248. The pattern variied in details, sometimes the falcon was depicted as armed and tongued Gules.

The banner was confirmed on 7 January 1954 and the arms were approved on 19 December 1921 by Minister of Interior of Bayern.
