The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a yellow-green-yellow vertical triband with ratio 1:2:1. The coat of arms without shield is in the middle of the central stripe.

In a green field are two golden (= yellow) hatches crossed per saltire. Below are six blossoms of rape of the same colour ordered 3:2:1.
Meaning:
The mattocks are canting (Hagen ~= Hacken). The blossoms are symbolising agriculture, the main line of business. Their number is alluding to the size of land, which was gained by forest clearance in the middle ages. (6 Hufen ~= 450,000 sqm = 45 ha)

In a blue shield is a golden (= yellow) statant monk, flanked by two upright branches of yew having three berries each.
Meaning:
According to source the colours are symbolising the affiliation of the village to the Lordship of Rostock in the middle ages. The monk is canting and reminding on the monks, who settled down here in the 13th century. The branches are symbolising an 800-years old yew tree in the municipality.
