Shield Or a castle Gules, with an embattled wall masoned Sable, port Or, windows Sable and two towers of the same topped by domes, in port a bishop proper in half length portrait, on the embattlements a Paschal Lamb passant.
Meaning:
Since 984 there had been a castle. The Barons of Mügeln lived there since 1161. In the 12th century the Bishopric of Meißen gained a foothold and established a market town alongside local crossroads. In 1288 Mügeln is called a city. In the late Medieval the bishops gained complete control. In 1570 the city was acquired by the Electorate of Sachsen. City walls existed since 1373, a city council since 1395, which rented the high level cognisance in the 15th century. In the 19th century in the city had been Europe´s largest narrow gauge railway station. In 1395 Johannes III of Kittlitz as Bishop of Meißen donated the seat of the local reeve to the city. Since then it had been the city hall. The bishop in base is referring to him. Embattled wall and towers are stressing the status of a walled city. The Paschal Lamb is the heraldic animal of the bishopric.
