Murnau Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, a sinister facing lindworm reguardant Vert armed Gules.
Meaning:
The pattern probably was introduced on occasion of the grant of a few privileges including the right to host an annual fair in 1350 by Ludwig of Brandenburg. The existence of the seal is proven by prints since 1374. The pattern remained basically the same. Tinctures were introduced in 1565 and 1568 by Hans Mielich and Philipp Apian. In the 19th century the people believed, that a "Murn" would be a fabulous monster.
